The short story: In 2015, Shari Brownfield established Shari Brownfield Fine Art, LLC, drawing upon three decades of expertise encompassing gallery curation, museum stewardship, art brokerage, advisory, and appraisals. Shari holds a BFA from Concordia University in Montreal, Canada.
Beyond her professional pursuits, Shari actively engages with the vibrant Jackson Hole community, lending her leadership to prominent non-profit organizations.
The longer story: Shari's passion for visual arts ignited early in her life, manifesting in a perpetual inclination for drawing and doodling, even amidst aspirations of a legal career. While pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a focus on Painting and Art History, supplemented by a minor in Philosophy, Shari was captivated by the allure of art collecting. Despite initial hesitations from her parents, she took a bold leap, depleting her savings to acquire a cherished lithograph by her favorite artist, Antoni Tàpies. Struggling to afford a frame for months, she diligently worked multiple jobs while attending art school to realize her vision.
Embracing every thread of the art world, Shari embarked on a multifaceted journey, transitioning through diverse roles over the past three decades. From humble beginnings as a gallery assistant and crate builder, to assuming responsibilities as a museum shop manager, artist agent, sales director, and ultimately, gallery director at prestigious galleries across Canada and the United States.
Yet, Shari's true fulfillment blossomed from cultivating profound connections with clients, leveraging her eclectic background and rich experiences to intuitively comprehend their desires and facilitate their ideal acquisitions. She embodies the essence of a hunter, gatherer, and educator fused into one persona. A self-proclaimed 'art geek,' Shari finds unparalleled joy in discussing, observing, and appraising art and its marketplace; her enthusiasm radiating whenever the subject arises.
Outside of her professional accomplishments, Shari is an active community member in Jackson Hole, WY, including current board service at the Center for the Arts, Community Safety Network, and the Wyoming Committee for the National Museum of Women in the Arts. Her commitment to the arts is further evidenced by her past roles advocating non-profit organizations including the Art Association of Jackson Hole, Center of Wonder, and other community-focused initiatives.
